Looks like some things don't change.

This warning from J. C. Ryle from 150 years ago seems like he's talking about the situation in 2011! We call it Post-Modernism or Relativism, but it's the same devilish scheme. Seemingly reasonable "let's all just get along" principles, all designed to make the  truths of the bible  appear quite "unkind" and " closed -minded." What is "unkind" is knowing that many of the people around us are going to be judged by a holy and righteous God and then keeping to ourselves the truth about the only way to avoid eternal punishment. It's not at all unkind to see a person about to be hit by a bus and run over and shove that person out of the way with all possible force. Or to see a distracted person about to walk off a cliff, and shout with all rudeness, "STOP!" Shouldn't we show "kindness" by warning people of the wrath to come in whatever way is necessary to grab their attention? Deliver Us From Pantheism I

Good advice for the Christian, from J.C. Ryle

Healthy Examination of the Soul Occasional retirement, self-inquiry, meditation, and secret communion with God, are absolutely essential to spiritual health. The man who neglects them is in great danger of a fall. To be always preaching, teaching, speaking, writing, and working public works, is, unquestionably, a sign of zeal. But it is not always a sign of zeal according to knowledge. It often leads to adverse consequences. We must make time occasionally for sitting down and calmly looking within, and examining how matters stand between our own selves and Christ. The omission of the practice is the true account of many a backsliding which shocks the Church, and gives occasion to the world to blaspheme. ~ J.C. Ryle
